115: Best night since 1969

Saturday
Hari Raya open house at the ambassador's residence. Glorious food! But forgot to take photos. Urgh! Brought my host family to the party and little Helmi was overwhelmed by the sea of people. They didn't stay long but still, I'm glad that Anu and Jaakko had a taste of Malaysian food and experienced a lively open house.

Went out with Tom to his friends' house for drinks somewhere near Hakaniemi. Sasku, the host, was nice enough to cook up some delicious fried chicken and served us some really good chilli paste to go with it.

Sara, Marette, Tom; Sasku, Sara, Marette, Tom

Adjourned to a bar after lots of drinks, karaoke, and drunken Sasku and Marette. They were a fun bunch, though. I have never laughed so genuinely since Barsonic days, the radio gang and mama blondie. Jokes being told here and the sense of humour can be quite different. I still haven't exactly found someone or a group of people who shares the same kind of humour as I do, but this was the best night I've ever had in 3 months. Russell Peters? Bring it on!

Sunday
Anu's birthday. Nothing special planned except breakfast in bed prepared for her by her husband and Eliel being sick with stomach flu. And me missing sleep the night before and getting gastric. Yay.

Monday
Minä olen Julia. Minä olen kotoisin Malesiasta ja olen 25 vuotta. Minä asun nyt Haaparantaperhen luonna Nummelassa, Suomessa. Minä opiskelen suomen kursilla maanantaisin ja keskiviikkosin Helsingin Akuisopistossa. Minä puhun malaijia, englantia, ja kiinaa.

I wrote this last week actually. Notice how I could only start every sentence with
'Minä olen...' (I am) cos that was about what we learned as of last week. I think Finnish is a beautiful language in the sense that endings are created with specifics that you don't need to use so many words to express something. But the downside is that these specifications come with a lot of rules. Too many rules, in fact. At least, for me it is. And some words can be so mouthful.

Take for instance 'One thousand two hundred and seventy'. In Finnish, it's
'tuhataakaksisataaseitsemänkymmenta'. That's actually five words written as one. Don't ask me why.

Translation: I am Julia. I come from Malaysia and I am 25 years old. I am currently living with the Haaparanta family in Nummela, Finland. I study Finnish course on Mondays and Wednesdays in Helsingin Aikuisopisto. I speak Malay, English, and Chinese.

Correct me if I'm wrong somewhere.

Oh, and leftover spaghetti with smoked salmon for lunch. Mm, mmm.

There were 5 tomatoes but I got too hungry hehe

Today

Woolen socks keep me warm =)

Just because =)
