I may be late, but then again, I'm a Malaysian.
Happy Malaysia Day. Hope everyone enjoyed the new public holiday. As for me, it was a usual Thursday, where I carried out my weekly cleaning chores. But I looked forward to this evening cos we were going to watch Swan Lake ballet performance in Helsinki's Opera House. I was lucky that my host family bought us good seats and ordered refreshments for the interval.
The ballet was beautifully executed. The stage, lighting, and costume designs were breathtaking. This was my first ballet experience and I was a little worried I couldn't understand as much as I was supposed to. But it turned out okay, as it was part theatre, part ballet. I didn't know how to interpret the dances but at least I could appreciate the story being performed. I've always like watching all these plays and dances but I've never given much thought about ballet, or maybe cos I've never came across such ballet performance in Malaysia. But seeing them dancing on stage made me wished I had learned ballet when I was younger.
Anyway, this morning, I learned how to make the perfect half boiled eggs, thanks to Yu Jin for blogging here. It was absolutely yummers!
Then afternoon came and I was thinking hard what to cook. Asked around for ideas and Jo suggested Hainanese chicken chop as I had chicken breast meat. Hey! Why hadn't I thought about that! It's not a hard dish to make, actually. So I attempted.
Not perfect, but passed. Eemil liked it. He said it was good. Helmi was super picky as usual, saying it doesn't look good, the chicken is soft, peas and corns don't taste good and the sauce won't taste good cos it has peas and corns in it....complaining all the way when she hasn't even eaten a single bite. *face palm* I think it's karma.
Iltapala tonight was good; shrimp pie with rocket salad, smoked salmon and red wine. And chill out music that filled the house. Mmm, bliss.
I do miss Malaysia, the food, the hustle and bustle, the festivals, and all my friends back in KL. But I'm not ready to leave Finland yet; not even after April. I dunno what I'm going to do or where exactly I'll be, but let's see. Till then, I hope you had a great Merdeka, Hari Malaysia, and enjoy all the Hari Raya open houses. I'm going to one tomorrow. Ah, good food =)
