109: Absolutely random

I was on my way to meet Tom in Kamppi after my Finnish class when a guy stopped me in my tracks and spoke a bunch of Finnish to me. I quickly said I didn't understood what he was saying and decided that he was drunk. He then explained that he and his 3 other friends were freshmen students of Metropolia University, Helsinki and they were in the middle of completing their final mission of a race, which required to bring something nice and beautiful to the last checkpoint. So, yea, they wanted to take me to the last checkpoint, which was in a park.

It was totally random and hilarious. I laughed so loud that I was slightly embarrassed by myself. But I have a feeling they were too drunk to feel offended anyway :P

Anyway, I told them I was actually on my way to meeting a friend and they started asking if my friend was a girl, how does he look like, bla bla bla and finally said I could bring him along. So I gave Tom a call and handed the phone over to one of the guys so he could explain. Besides, I needed some kind of clarification that this was genuine. Finland is a safe country, but still, it's best to take precautions.

Tom said go and he has participated in something like that before, so I went, dragging Tom along with me nyahaha. They wanted me to do something with them at the checkpoint, like, singing and started asking me what can I sing. I had no idea what songs they know and I'm not a singer. But for some reason, I suggested Pocahontas' theme song. Yea, laugh all you want cos it was such a mismatch. A hard rock loving nation and you suggested Pocahontas? Wth. Nobody knew that song so they decided to go with the chorus of 'We Will Rock You'.

Got to the checkpoint tent, queued up and all the while the 4 freshmen and Tom were babbling in Finnish and all I could catch was 'special guest'. Ok, certainly not knowing what was going on. Came our turn and everyone just started clapping to the rythm and singing. So I just joined in.

Then came another time I had absolutely no idea what was going on again. Everyone was just talking and communicating in a language I couldn't comprehend. All I could catch was 'japanilainen', which means Japanese. In my head, I was thinking omg did they just told her I'm a Japanese?

Then she said something to me and Tom answered 'itadakimasu' and she said something more in Japanese and Tom was cringing to find more Japanese words and I was like whaa-? Then she looked at me and said, 'Mitä kuuluu?' (How are you?) At this point, I was so proud of myself cos this was what I learned in class!

Ahem, so I answered, 'Hyvää, kiitos!' (Good, thank you!) And one of the freshmen went, 'Noooooo! You just ruined everything for us!' Whaa-???

Then someone kept telling me, 'Say something'. Say what? 'In you own language'. Which language?? My mind is so not trained for multitasking.

In the end, I was told they got a lot of points for it. Well, good for them, then. I hope they win. It was totally random but a good and fun experience nevertheless.

And oh yea, they were drunk. At least, half drunk.
