Yesterday, Jaakko was home, so he was pretty much in charged in the food department. Lunch was grilled honey chicken with french fries and salad, tea time snack was munkki (it's like doughnut. This one's with toffee icing on top. Yummers), and then pizza for dinner cum iltapala.
Iltapala refers to the light snack eaten after dinner, before going to bed, usually between the hours of 7-10pm, according to Prof. Wiki. The kids are usually told to go to bed at 9pm or 9.30pm, so they have their iltapala normally at 8-ish. Yes, and then they go straight to bed. Actually, light snack here means bread, yoghurt, or fruits. Something really light. On the other hand, the pizzas were good.
Today, lunch was the leftover pizzas from last night, I tried to make egg tarts and it was quite tedious, and dinner/iltapala was tacos. Yes, I'm feeling my waistline is expanding. In fact, I measured myself two days ago; it has increased. I has a sads.
Anyway, it was my first time making egg tarts. Don't be fooled by the colours of both pictures; one was taken in the day and the other in the night. A little bit charred, not so pretty, but otherwise, taste and texture is quite tasty. Soft pastry, just what I wanted. But not flaky, though =( The first batch I made, the pastry was too thick and there was not enough space for the filling. Ended up with a thick pastry bottom and no taste of the egg filling. Second batch, well, I haven't tried it yet, but as you can see, I didn't have enough filling for all the shells. So, I ended up with very not pretty egg tarts. Plus, I left it in the oven a tad too long. Gotta improve next time.
