Day 64 - I made meatballs

And I liked it

I think at one point in my life I told myself to learn how to make meatballs, Swedish meatballs in particular, because it was someone's favourite. Like a pro procrastinator, I never did. And I simply forgot about it after we both went on with our own lives. Plus, there's always Ikea.

I'm currently listening to songs by David Tao, for some reason. It's really nice to hear some Chinese once in a while. Not that David Tao is my favourite Chinese singer, but he does have some nice songs. Kudos to Spotify for the streaming.

Went for Malaysian Canteen at the ambassador's house in Espoo yesterday. Was supposed to meet Diana in Helsinki and then go together but that didn't happen. And I was being a klutz as usual, forgetting to print out bus details and map to the given address. I didn't even take the address with me in the first place! Then Diana was so sweet to tell me which bus to take, where to take it, which stop to stop, and what not.

I showed the address to the bus driver, and he shook his head and said, 'This bus doesn't go there. It goes to Haukalahti'. I was like, 'Where the hell is Haukalahti'. Called Diana who called her hubby who called me back to confirm 'Yes take that friggin' bus'. And I caught it in the nick of time. And then she texted to tell me that the 20th stop of bus 111 is Telämäentie, it is after Westend and before Matinkylä. I was like, 'Wah, so detailed, thanks!' Then I realised the bus doesn't stop at every single stop so I didn't actually know exactly how many stops I've passed. I punched myself again for not printing out bus details from home that has all the bus stop names. Lesson learned: bus drivers do not know all the bus stop names.

But thank God he dropped me off at the correct stop even though he said, 'The bus doesn't go to Matinkylä and you are already in Westend.' I got off the bus, and I was like, 'Where the hell am I?' It was really like being dropped off in the middle of nowhere. All I saw was trees left, right, centre. But it was actually not that hard to find places here, unlike in KL. Oh you need me to be there? Yea, sure, I'll be able to find my way...3 hours later. Or like a friend who told me he was driving to somewhere in KL for an interview and had to follow the signboards, and they turned from blue to green, leading him to Ipoh. It was just so hilarious.

Anyway, no pictures of the glorious food cos I forgot. But it was oh-so-yummy. Assam fish, ayam masak merah, roast chicken, accar, nasi tomato, kuih ubi kayu, cucur udang, pulut panggang... zomg. My only regret was that I didn't take more. I spent more time talking this time.

Ate with Jeci and Taavi, a Finnish-Malaysian couple I met at the previous event, and Tom, a friend of theirs who once lived in Malaysia, and who was very kind to invite me to his surprise birthday party planned by his friends. So yea, I went out for the first time. The surprise for Tom was a bungee jump arranged for him, which unfortunately it didn't work when he was ready to go. So, boo, no jump.

150m. Highest in Finland. Since 1989.

Had a small picnic, more friends came, and then we headed to a bar called PRKL, with heavy metal music. But when the alco kicked in, nothing really mattered anymore. I had a fish shot, which is made of Fisherman's Friend. It was black and minty. And it gave me the effect like Jagermeister did; stars in my eyes. Bought a beer, but maybe it was wiser to buy a cider instead.

Food and drinks around the right company always taste better

Part of the whole party

Took the 1am bus home, not knowing that it'll cost 5€ more (hurhurhur) and the street in Nummela would be so dark that it's pitch black. But I had fun. It was a great night out after so long. I love the fact that the music is not blaring loud that people can still hear each other especially the bartender, and also the fact that indoor smoking is not allowed so that your hair doesn't smell like smoke when you get home and you don't have to wash it twice a day after a night's out. Still, I miss Barsonic - the lights, the colours, the music, the people, the drink!

But I guess it's really time to move on.
