197: Friday night

It was an honour that I was invited to Wambui's birthday celebration. Wambui's a classmate of mine from my Finnish class. Lovely girl. But living true to my Malaysian blood, I was late again. But hey! It was just because I misunderstood the bus schedule (it was a different bus number). So I had to wait an hour for the next bus. Pfft.

Anyway, Wambui's boyfriend, Petri, cooked up a delicious meal of Thai green curry and jasmine rice, which I didn't take any photos of cos I was hungry by the time I got there. Plus, I was a bit lost for a while looking for her street. So a 50-minute bus ride, about 10 minutes by tram, and probably another 10 minutes wandering in the wrong street and ended up chatting with a random stranger. I don't know exactly what time I arrived at her apartment, I just remember being hungry (and also that I kinda 'saved' my stomach for the occasion :P)

The desert that sent me to heaven

I made some fresh kuih gulung, just to share a little bit of Malaysian delicacy with her and Petri. I had a feeling that they were vegetarians and I had wanted to make a separate batch without eggs but didn't have the time to do so. But thankfully, they're not so strict when it comes to deserts. *Phew*

Everyone

The guests were Petri's family and Wambui's friends. Another chance for me to sharpen my Finnish as almost everyone speaks Finnish. Other times are with grandma, shopkeepers and random old ladies asking me if the bus was going to come. Oh, and random lady giving me directions; exactly like when I asked for directions in Portugal, she spoke a whole bunch of Portuguese to me as if I understood anything. But then again, in Finland, as I've been told before, you'd be surprised that most Asians here actually know how to speak Finnish.

Hyvää syntymapäivää!

Petri and Wambui share a beautiful old apartment that was built in 1925, which means it's about 85 years old. It has beautiful old hard wood flooring and with a little bit of makeover, the whole unit looks superb with the matching furniture and decorations that accented the entire space. One room apartment, cozy, and it represents very much about them and their lifestyles. Very relevant.

And since I was in town, I looked up some of my friends to see what they were doing on Friday night. Ended up in Sasku's place to sing karaoke with Marette, which was again fun because karaoke is always fun. And then proceeded to a bar in town later in the night.

We went to this bar, which was small and crowded like Barsonic (in KL, which I miss), and they play songs that everyone knows and will sing and dance to, like in Barsonic (which I blardy miss!), but also full of drunken people (not like Barsonic, no :P). It was an interesting night of watching people tumbling in their steps, falling onto tables knocking off glasses, falling onto the ground with their partner knocking off another guy falling onto their faces, the same guys going around the bar
in their drunken state picking up women...and with both Sasku and Marette telling me, 'This is a really Finnish bar!' Lol. Oh and most of them are businessmen and probably 40 and above. And I got hit on a few times (even in the karaoke bar that we went to later on), all by middle aged men. It was hilarious.

All in all, I had a great night. Caught the 4am bus full of youths with midnight burgers and then passing out in their seats after that. Oh, and I tried a really nice shot, Koff + Bailey's. It's licorice, but the Bailey's makes it nice. I like that one. Still, I got all flushed up after that, like always. Pfft.
